It shows the nature of the obstacles in the matter. If it is a favourable card, the opposing forces will not be serious, or it may indicate that something good in itself will not be productive of good in the particular connexion.

Card Description

A man quickly carries away five swords. Two others remain stuck in the ground. A camp is close at hand.

Mediocrity, in work and elsewhere; immaturity, pettiness, weakness.

Card Description

This card shows a sculptor working in a monastery. Compare with the Eight of Pentacles: the apprentice or amateur in that card has received his reward and is now at work in earnest.

It shows the foundation or basis of the matter, that which has already passed into actuality and which the Significator has made his own.

Trickery, deception, cunning, swindling, duplicity, fraud.

Card Description

A graceful but not warlike figure rides quietly. He wears a winged helmet to symbolize the imagination. He is a dreamer, and the images of sensory things haunt him in his vision.

It shows the influence that is coming into action and will operate in the near future.

Judgement and its associations; power, command, authority, military intelligence, law, offices of the state.

Card Description

He sits in judgement, holding the sign of his suit. He recalls the Justice card from the Major Arcana, and he may represent this virtue, but he possesses earthly power over life and death, because he is King.

This is a card of valor—six are attacking one, but he has the upper hand. On the intellectual plane, it signifies discussion and debate; in business negotiations, trade wars, barter, competition. It is also a card of success—the combatant is on top and his enemies are unable to reach him.

Card Description

A knight rides at full speed, as if scattering his enemies. He is the prototypical hero of romantic chivalry. He might almost be Galahad, whose sword is swift and sure because he is clean of heart.

Vigilance, retreat, solitude, isolation, exile, tomb and coffin.

Card Description

The corpse of a knight in a position of prayer, laid out upon his tomb.
